A Philippine Italian Experience at Abbodanza!!!

Photo Album A Philippine Italian Experience at Abbodanza!!! Jul 22, '08  4:24 PM
for everyone
My friend Ia Lee, is one of the owners of this relatively new resto in ortigas area. I just went to Italy last summer and I have been missing and craving for its gelatos and pizzas since I stepped on the plane coming back to the Philippines.

And ofcourse, when I arrived home I was thrilled upon seeing blog posts and photo blogs of people about this Italian pizzeria ristorante which is located only at the Ortigas area. This is good news for people not only within the vicinity but also for people from nearby cities like QC who wouldn't have to experience traffic and long hours going to makati or the fort to have an italian gastronomic experience.

Food is very very good!  And Affordable!

We had:
Pizza Four Seasons - which is a huge pizza and already good for 4-6 people. P285 (price for all pizzas)

Risotto Con Osso Busco - loved the meat!!! for only P280.  It is Italian rice with saffron and beef shank, milanese style

Minestrone - as I am a zuppa (soup in italian) person, I cannot afford not to have a soup. I give this soup 5 stars. For only P120!!! and my friend joyce and I decided to split it into 2 for marami na sa isang bowl.

Cannelloni agli Spinach - is very good but i prefer them to be more generous with the white sauce next time. P195

Tiramisu -- for dessert for only P95 :)

Thanks Ia Lee and Abbodanza people for this italian food experience. Can't you open another branch in areas like QC (like somewhere in Katipunan)? Students need more restos which don't only serve good food but affordable :0)

Abbodanza is located at the
G/F of Crescent Condominium
San Miguel Ave. and Amethyst Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City

This is what you call MADE IN CHINA

This is a picture I took in another country's local airport (somewhere in Europe) that caught my attention and which prove that Pinoys are still much better in English than people in the west.

The email below however is much worse and darn funnier.

I
have been receiving e-mails like this, but this seems to be the one that made me laugh the hardest so far

Re-posting for future use (when I need something to make me forget my worries and problems for awhile).

Nakakahiya. For UP boast, judge draws SC reprimand.

I felt embarrassed upon reading this on the frontpage of PDI today. Embarrassed because the person charged is a fellow UPian.  And from our college.  I am glad Phil Star didn't give much of a big deal.  One major embarrassment from 1 national broadsheet is enough.

I am re-posting for future reference though.  To keep us, Peyups, REMINDED of this incident and so as NOT TO GET REPEATED in the future.

Nakakahiya.

For UP boast, judge draws SC reprimand

             By Leila   Salaverria

             First Posted 05:21:00 07/14/2008

MANILA, Philippines—Just because you are a University of the Philippines (UP) law graduate doesn’t make you smarter than others. So says the Supreme Court, in effect. (Emphasis supplied by me. ncorpuz)

Saying no school had monopoly of knowledge of the law, the high court reprimanded a Calamba City Regional Trial Court judge who told a lawyer that since the latter did not graduate from the UP College of Law, he and the judge could not be equals.

Reprimand

The court sanctioned Judge Medel Belen with a reprimand after finding him guilty of conduct unbecoming of a judge, and warned him that he would be sanctioned more severely if he repeated such an act.

The lawyer, Melvin Mane, had filed a complaint against Belen over the judge’s remarks but later withdrew the complaint, saying he filed it because of his impulsiveness.

But the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) pursued the administrative proceedings against Belen.

In its June 30 decision penned by Associate Justice Conchita Carpio Morales, the high court said a lawyer’s competence should not be judged based on the law school he went to.

“An alumnus of a particular law school has no monopoly of knowledge of the law,” the court said.

“By hurdling the bar examinations which this court administers, taking the lawyer’s oath, and signing the Roll of Attorneys, a lawyer is presumed to be competent to discharge his functions and duties as an officer of the court, irrespective of where he obtained his law degree,” the court added.

“For a judge to determine the fitness or competence of a lawyer primarily on the basis of his alma mater is clearly an engagement in an argument of ad hominem.”

Proud MLQU alumnus

Mane’s complaint cited the transcript of a Feb. 27, 2006, proceedings in court in which Belen asked him if he graduated from the UP College of Law. Mane said he graduated from Manuel L. Quezon University and was proud of it.

Belen replied: “Then you’re not from UP. Then you cannot equate yourself to me because there is a saying and I know this, not all law students are created equal, not all law schools are created equal, not all lawyers are created equal despite what the Supreme Being [said] that we all are created equal in His form and substance.”

Explaining to the OCA the circumstances behind their court exchange, Belen said Mane had filed a motion for Belen to inhibit himself in a case and that the motion contained a direct assault on his integrity and dignity.

‘Insulting, unwarranted’

Belen said the motion implied that an earlier order he had issued was not based on the merits of the case.

The judge also objected to Mane’s request for the unedited transcripts of court proceedings, saying it implied that the court was illegally and unethically changing the transcripts.

The OCA, in its findings, noted that Belen did not deny the exchange with Mane and said the judge’s “insulting statements” that questioned Mane’s capability because the lawyer did not graduate from UP was “unwarranted and inexcusable.”

The OCA said that though the statements could be attributed to human frailty, judges should use courteous language and be patient and temperate.

Befitting a gentleman

The high court said the OCA’s findings were well-taken and cited more portions of court transcripts in which Belen asked if Mane was taught in MLQU about a certain principle of law. He even directed a court employee to show the lawyer the judge’s statements of assets and liabilities, among others.

The court said a judge should address the merits of the case and not the counsel’s person. It added that if he felt his integrity and dignity was assaulted, the judge did the correct thing in directing Mane to state why the latter should not be cited for contempt.

But the judge went out of bounds when he “engaged in a supercilious legal and personal discourse.”

“This court has reminded members of the bench that even in the face of boorish behavior from those they deal with, they ought to conduct themselves in a manner befitting gentlemen and high officers of the court,” it said.

Ricky Lo features at Funfare PHIL STAR...

A dream wedding... ...in The City of Lights
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo
Thursday, July 3, 2008

Some stars get married on the beach (bad omen, foreboding an early break-up). Others do so on highlands (like Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago), at the seafront garden of a five-star hotel at sunset (like Cesar Montano and Sunshine Cruz), at a sprawling resort like Villa Escudero, or on a misty morning in the country’s summer capital (like Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez).

ABS-CBN reporter Niña Corpuz and Studio 23’s news manager Vince Rodriguez did it in the City of Lights no less, at the Eglise St. Severin in Paris, last May 20, with Ashley Razonable singing Ave Maria in the background, making everybody cry. They spent their honeymoon in France, Spain and Italy. Wow, isn’t it?

They first considered some of their favorite places in the Philippines, Asia and the US. After they came up with a list of possible destinations, they felt there was one place missing, a city they fell in love with, which they vowed to return to — Paris.

They toyed with the idea, but decided that it was impossible. It was too far, too expensive, too much of a dream. But the more they thought about it, the more they fell in love with the idea.

Vince was part of the ABS-CBN news team that covered the first Filipinos to climb Mt. Everest in 2006, and the Filipino women in 2007. As a mountaineer, it had been his dream to set foot on Mt. Everest , and he finally made it. He told Niña, if his dream could come true, why couldn’t theirs?

In October last year, Niña’s show on The Filipino Channel (TFC), Balitang Europe, went to Milan to conduct a seminar for ABS-CBN Europe correspondents. After the week-long seminar, she went on her third visit to Paris, and was again overwhelmed by how magical the city was. When she returned to Manila, she knew where her dream wedding was going to be.

But their dream wouldn’t have come true without the help of their relatives and friends in France. Niña’s cousin, Imee Wissler, and their ninong, John Franco, both residents of Paris, helped look for the reception venue. They visited a number of restaurants, took lots of pictures and sent them by e-mail so the couple could choose which they liked best.

Then, the couple heard that the head of the Philippine chaplaincy in Paris, Fr. Gil Apuli, was in Manila for a vacation. The couple met with Fr. Gil who found for them the beautiful 15th century gothic-style church located in the Latin Quarter.

Another coincidence — or blessing for the two: While Niña was surfing the Internet looking for reception venues in Paris, she met through e-mail 22-year-old Melanie Razonable, a Filipina who was born and grew up in Paris. The two hit it off, and Melanie volunteered to help coordinate Niña’s wedding. Niña then found out that Melanie’s sister, 15-year-old Ashley, was the champion in a Disney reality singing contest in France. She had even been featured on Balitang Europe as a Pinoy achiever. Niña asked if Ashley could sing at her wedding and the French-Pinay chanteuse said she would love to.

Niña’s good friend Debbie Co made the gowns for the bride and entourage. The couple also booked a photo studio, Photos Du Monde, which has its main office in Paris. Fortunately — another blessing — the studio’s owners, Stephane and Chato Vivas, were visiting Manila, so the couple was able to talk to them about the wedding pictorial.Niña and Vince flew to Paris 10 days before the wedding, together with Niña’s cousin Divine and her husband Patrick Duran. Doing their errands in Paris turned out to be a pleasure. Divine chose the bouquets for the bride and entourage from Au Nom De La Rose, a Parisian flower shop that specializes in Roses. For the wedding cake, Divine chose a tower of macarons from the luxury cake and pastry shop Ladurée.

Most of the wedding guests flew in two days before the wedding. The couple’s relatives and friends in Paris made sure everything went smoothly, picked up guests at the airport, made hotel arrangements, toured and entertained them.

After the ceremony, the couple and the guests proceeded to the garden behind the church for the pictorials. Then, everyone walked just about 30 steps to Baladin Rive Gauche, a French restaurant literally next door to the church, which was closed specially for the reception. It was a melding of French and Pinoy tradition at the reception. The guests enjoyed French food and wine as a jazz pianist serenaded them. But after a few (or more) glasses of champagne, some of the guests convinced the pianist to let them sing, and the live piano karaoke session began! The food, wine and champagne flowed until three in morning.

According to the bride’s cousin, Divine, it was a wedding to remember, not because it was lavish or extravagant but because it was so intimate. Everyone was surrounded by family and close friends and, of course, because it took place in the most romantic city in the world.

Forgiveness, Walls, Love, Waiting for His perfect timing
