Break time:

Yeah... you may call me a back logger for watching this only now. When this was shown, I was more interested in the other Oscar nominated movies.

I just watched on DVD.

It is a very good film. I wonder why Leonardo wasn't nominated for this (and why get nominated in blood diamond instead). Tom Hanks and Leonardo gave one of their best performances. Other than the acting, direction, cinematography -- technical side...

It has a very good plot.

Makes me wish that I was a criminal, and made amends by serving my country later on... and get rich.

An inspiring story about a young man who committed a grave felony - that would have probably been the worst BP 22 crime under Phillippine Laws. But how a criminal turned his life anew after being apprehended is what makes it better than what I expected.

Before the age of 19, he was able to be a doctor, pilot and prosecutor... and studied for the bar for only 2 weeks. I envy!!! (In fact I strongly suggest this to the juveniles handled by my bosses at the PAO and Fiscal's Office).

Find out how he did it.

I wish I have more time to blog about this, but time is gold...

Back to homework.

(And oh, btw - http://www.abagnale.com/comments.htm - a should've been disclaimer ;)...)

What on earth?!?  I was expecting the Chipmunks I used to watch in gradeschool... but nooooo!!!!

Corny.  Boring.

Lacks intelligence and logic.

I don't think kids would even appreciate. If they do, O well they must be toddlers (who are too young to comprehend) and not in prep or kinder (who can comprehend a bit).

I am glad it was only for 1 hour and 20 minutes!!!

Back to readings.

A movie I decided to see as a break from a student's stressful lifestyle.

It is a funny and a feel-good movie.  If you want to laugh and forget your problems for awhile, go see it.

I like romantic comedies, and Katherine Heigl proves she fits in Meg Ryan's throne as the perky America's sweetheart (from her movie Knocked Up). She is my favorite in Grey's Anatomy and I am glad she is slowly gaining good reputation in romantic comedies.

I love all her dresses in the movie. In fact I suggest the would-be-brides to see it. You will get a lot of tips on fashion and wedding preps.

And to those who are always a bridesmaid but never a bride... :), like me, I am sooooo sure you will be able to relate WELL in this this film. Haha.

Rat-tat-too-ee

Ratatouille7So what is Rat-tat-too-ee?!? (ang hirap kasi ispeling ng french word RATATOUILLE. Akala ko nga RA-TO-TU-LI ang bigkas e... hindi pala.. silent "L" fala sha.)

So
Rat-tat-too-ee is not the rat... but the food known in France where tomato, potato, eggplant are key ingredients sauteed in olive oil. The RAT cook is REMY, the one in the picture above.  Anyway, I want to invite you all to see this ANIMATION by PIXAR entertainment.  FYI I don't like cartoons all the time, only a few.  I don't like Shrek (Sorry to Shrek fans... I find it "pilit" and corny sometimes.  Ayoko rin ng Toy Story. Lilo & Stich and Finding Nemo -- okay lang saken).

But
Rat-tat-too-ee???  The best!

Ratatouillefoto1 It is about a garbage boy Linguini, who needs work and the gifted Remy helps him to get the job as the Chef in demand of the demised famed cook
Gusteau's Restaurant.

I hate our rats in the house.  Sinira nila ang pintuan, they make holes, they eat our food, harghhhh...  kabisado na nga nila ang mouse trap sa bahay e, kaya hindi mamatay matay yung isang malaking rat.  If only they could turn out to be adorable and cuddly like EMIL
who is REMY's cute brother.  (FYI: a small stuffed toy EMIL is 1K plus).  Ratatouille9This rat reminds me of a psych batchmate also named "EMIL" who resembles some of the rat's features (I mean no offense Mr. Emil Joven, incase you read this.  Your vertically challenged figure is what makes you adorable actually).

I don't want to be a spoiler so I won't discuss the details further.  I want to invite you all to see this movie in the BIG SCREEN.  Its animation and emotion - filled cartoon of pixar.  I chose to see this coz I like FOOD and I figured I might like this one... and I am glad I was RIGHT!  I like the trailer but I learned as a moviegoer that "Thou shall not judge a movie by its trailer!" and as what a youngblood contributor wrote recently, "Thou shall not judge a movie by its poster" --- but this movie is an exception to those rules.  If trailers and posters are deceiving sometimes.... well with this movie, it is not the case.  Take a peek:

My brother and cousin Clariz enjoyed the movie.  I am glad my brother liked it coz he wanted to see Rush Hour.  We enjoyed it so much we proceeded to the Italian resto Sbarro afterwards.  Too bad
Rat-tat-too-ee is not in their menu.  But once I step in France in the future, I promise myself I will have a taste of this meal.

Rataouille01

Relax guys.  Have a break from work and school.  Before you decide to see a movie, with Simpsons and Rush Hour as your options, don't forget to include
Rat-tat-too-ee.  You won't regret.  I promise.

It's all a Matter of Taste

Die_hard_4 My family went to see Die Hard 4 yesterday in Powerplant.  Original plan was that Da, Ma and I would see Transformers for we're the only ones who haven't seen it while Chap and Nick with the driver would see Die Hard 4.  But when we got at the Ticketbooth, all tickets for Transformers were sold out.  I said, "God, sobrang okay talaga ng Transformers! Sayang."  Darn.  Seeing Die Hard wasn't part of my plans, and I have no intention of seeing it next even if I were able to see Transformers.  I am not a fan of bratatatattatataatatatt armalites, kabOooooom explosives and kablag Awhooosh death defying stunts but after the movie while having dinner at Banana Leaf I told my family that, I like the movie.  I enjoyed it actually but Chap my eldest sis told me that it was nothing compared to Transformers.

Transformers

Hence, my Dad and I didn't allow ourselves not to see Transformers today at Gateway.  And to my surprise, for some reason I like Die Hard 4 more than Transformers.  Oh I mean,  I like Die Hard 4 and not really Transformers.  And my  Dad surprisingly, didn't like any of the two.

Diehard_4

I guess my Dad and I are deviants.  Everyone I know who has seen transformers loved it.  My sister said hindi ako marunong pumili ng maganda when she heard I still like Die Hard 4 more than Transformers.  Well, I never really enjoyed robots even during the old Voltes V days.  My 2 older sisters were the ones singing along with the Voltes V theme song when we're little as we wait for the Voltes V cartoons at Channel 13 (?) at nakikisabay lang akong manuod.  Pati Transformers and G.I. Joe ayoko masyado noon e.  Maybe I like Die Hard because I am a computer geek and technofreak mylsef (ata. pero hanggang tingin lang sa technogadgets dahil wala akong pera), and I have a plan learning the art of hacking in the future too.

Well, well...  as Simon Cowell says ladies and gentlemen, "It's all a matter of taste."

I love... Meryl Streep!

Photo_10I had to detox after a midterm exam which ended at 9pm last night.  It was under Ma'am Rowie's class and everyone just turned into a freakazoid when after learning there would be no enumeration (or fill in the blanks but plainly multiple choice and essay) she said, "Your answers should not be based solely on Logic but you must state the law and Jurisprudence." YIIIIIiiiiiKKKeEEsssss.... everyone was silent after she gave that instruction.  Paano kung hindi nag-memorize? Paano kung alam yung doctrine or the context pero hindi namin maalala what specific article number or case?  So I had to read through my syllabus very fast.  Mabuti may mga naalala rin ako kasi paulit ulit kong binabasa ang case tricklers in my syllabus na sinulat ko mismo when I was studying.  Haaayyyy sana okay ang maging results.  The multiple choice is not a simple multiple choice - it's the type that a student must have invested her time reading and understanding the cases and how the law is applied or else more chances of choosing the wrong answer out of a 6 -letter- choice item. In one item the choices are from letters "a" to "f" and it even contained lot of eye-catchers.  If a student didn't study well he/she will really have a hard time in the exam.  I didn't sleep for this and even attended my saturday class which is why my head was a bit throbbing already at around 730.  At around 9pm -- yung feeling na namamaga na utak mo -- you get what I am mean? Photo_11

I texted kat, my blockmate who was taking the exam in the other room (there were 80 of us) if she wanted to see a movie with me after but she was gone when I came out from the room at 9.  The other pips are going out to have a drink.  Ayoko namang uminom.  Iba pagod na at may class kinabukasan unlike me who doesn't have class on tues but need to study for partnership.  Minsan lang ako magka-freetime so  I texted "CTC MOVIE GATEWAY" and texted it to 2333.  Ayus! may palabas pa pero patay 930 and movie and it was 911 in my watch.  I was already at balara-katipunan driving and still thinking whether I'll go to eastwood or gateway.  When I texted "CTC MOVIE EASTWOOD" -- darn "11" pa ang palabas... i don't want to wait that long and need to sleep.

Devil_bookI got in gateway's Cinema 2 but around 10 minutes late but thank goodness I just got in time when Andrea (Anne Hathaway) was in Miranda Priestly's office submitting her resume. I just want to tell the whole world the I Love MERYL STREEP.  I never thought she could fit in a villainess role.  She resembled Glenn Close in 102 Dalmatians - you know, the Boss-strict-egoistic-type of roles... but Meryl Streep gave a more realistic portrayal of such, the movie also showed her human side.  And she is FUNNNNYYYYyyyyyyy! To tell you the truth, a lot of people admire Meryl Streep as an actress but I never really liked her UNTIL in this MOVIE.  Photo_07

Hats off to Anne Hathaway -- who seemed unremarkable in her cinderella movies until I saw her in this one.  She gave a good performance - perky and sweet, funny too.  If you want to laugh and relax a bit -- and detox from your computer screens and  abandon your desks with a pile of paperwork for awhile --  drive to the nearest mall and see this.  All the actors in the cast gave a good performance, like Emily Blunt and Stanley Tuci.  Now I want to read the BOOK too! Haha. Photo_27

I don't want to be a spoiler so I reserve the details.. basta panoorin nyo to.  Nakakatawa at maybe like me, you will see yourselves in Andrea and Miranda Priestly.  I saw myself in them ... and learned a lesson as well, you might too :)

Hide and Seek

I saw it sometime 2 weeks ago... Hide and Seek

Summary:

Dr. David Callaway, a psychologist and a father tries to help his daughter Emily deal with the trauma of her mother's death by moving to the countryside. With very few children in their new neighborhood, Emily creates an imaginary friend named Charlie. Unfortunately, this imaginary friend turns out not to be make-believe who caused the death of the people visiting the house. At the end of the movie, this imaginary friend turns out to be her own father whom the story suggests to be suffering from split personality disorder. Emily soon finds out that her father killed her own mother after he caught her cheating on him with another man.

My Reaction:

I doubt if there is really mental disorder involved because if there is such - it was purely clandestine. Dr. Callaway’s mental disorder started abruptly- right after he saw his wife cheating on him.  Split personality doesn’t happen over night, with only a premise that the person saw his wife cheating.   Cuckoldry may be depressing but not enough reason that it can translate to madness. The title Hide and Seek might not only apply to Emily playing the so-called game with her imaginary friend. The director and screenwriter may also have the objective of playing hide and seek with the audience of the film. It could be that the seeking lies on the hands of the audience - to judge for themselves if it was for real that Dr. Callaway is mentally ill or the director & screenwriter are just playing a game with us... that is, hiding Dr. Callaway’s fraudulent act of insanity to plead not guilty if caught.

Nahhhhhhh.  I'd go for the latter.

The Interpreter (?!?)

My God... my brain is swelling.  It was one of my rare bonding moments with my baby bro Nick, and our favorite bonding time... movies.  Sadly, it could've have been one of those memorable moments we had in our rockwell days - like when we saw Anger Management that got us almost into tears laughing.

It was one of Sydney Pollack's routine.  That is using Big Hollywood Stars to make it saleable.  Too bad these superstars (that we fall in love with in their best-selling films) fall into it as long as they are working with what they think is a flawless-big-boss-hollywood-most-powerful-cannot-be-rejected-kind-of-guy like Pollack who wastes his movies and lowers the tier of bright careers like Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.  And he did the same thing to Harrison Ford in an ugly movie which he also directed (I forgot the title).  He lacks modernity, he is dull, he is boring.  He should be coached by Clint Eastwood, who despite the old age does not translate to bore-galore movies.

The Interpreter wasted our time.  Wasted people's time.  All of us at the moviehouse were slouching lazily, can't wait for the movie to end.  We had to finish it to compensate our money's worth.  We should've seen a different movie :( Arghhhh.
